Build Your Own Community — Custom Groups & Challenges

One of the most exciting features of the league is the ability to create or join Custom Groups — your own private hickory golf community within the wider league. Gather your local club, your travelling companions, or your international rivals into a group and compete directly against each other across 12 different challenge formats, including Stableford, stroke play, match play, and more. Groups earn Ha'penny rewards, track rivalries, and climb their own leaderboard. To get started, visit the Custom Groups section from the navigation menu. Create a group and share your invite code with friends near and far — your local community and the international hickory world are waiting.

New Feature: Quick Score Entry — Submit Your Round in Seconds

We have added a Quick Score Entry mode to the score submission page to make recording your round as fast and frictionless as possible. Rather than entering your score hole by hole, simply toggle to Quick Entry, type in your total gross score for the round, and submit. The system will handle the rest. Hole-by-hole entry remains available for those who prefer the full breakdown. To use it, head to Submit Score, look for the toggle at the top of the scorecard, and select Quick Entry. As always, scores must be submitted within 7 days of play. Happy scoring!

2026-2027 Season Championship Announcement

I am pleased to announce that the 2026-2027 Hawes Worldwide Hickory Golf League Championship will be held as part of the 2027 Irish Hickory Golf Challenge, September 30 – October 5, 2027. Rules

New Handicap Calculation Method Effective August 1

From: League Secretary

The league will initially accept your Worldwide Handicap Index. Your league handicap will then be managed through the league's proprietary HPI system. All existing handicaps have been recalculated accordingly. Please review your updated handicap on the leaderboard.

We welcome select members who participated in the 2026 Ottawa Hickory Golf Challenge as part of our Beta testing of the website and software. We are grateful for their participation and feedback as we build this worldwide community.

Rules

Clarification on Equipment Standards

From: Rules Committee

Clubs must be hickory-shafted pre-1935 clubs or SoHG approved replicas, such as the Hawes of St. Andrews West "Maxwell" replica set. Steel-core shafts with hickory veneer are not permitted. An additional ruling regarding Otey Crisman Putters: these putters will be allowed for play in any Hawes Golf event, including the Ottawa and Irish Hickory Golf Challenges. If you have questions about your equipment, please contact the Commissioner before submitting scores.
